MEETING OF CARE PROFESSIONS 2018, Piacenza 24 May 2018. Therapeutic storytelling workshop: “THE IMAGINED TALE, storytelling set in Nature”.
Experience Nature produces improvements in both cognitive and emotional management, creating an immediate and regenerative sense of well-being. It therefore constitutes a useful care modality in reducing physical and pharmacological restraint for people with dementia.
According to Attention Restoration Theory stimulating the use of involuntary attention by being in contact with the natural environment is an effective way to regenerate directed attention and ensure good cognitive functioning.
Nature promotes mental and physical well-being by activating responses at the emotional, cognitive and physiological levels, up to and including reduction of heart rate, blood pressure and muscle tension, enabling recovery from stressful situations.
The recordings of the basal blood pressure values, made after the vision and narration activity, revealed an objective drop of 20 mmHg, both in the cases treated with antihypertensives and in the cases not treated pharmacologically.
